Chief Executive Officer
Thomas B. Michaud has spent 30 years at Keefe, Bruyette & Woods. He was named President and Chief Executive Officer in October 2011 and is responsible for directing the firm's operations across all business lines. Previously, he served as Vice Chairman and Chief Operating Officer since September 2001.
Under Mr. Michaud's leadership, KBW has become one of the leading investment banks to the financial services industry in both the United States and Europe. The company is regularly recognized for its leadership in the areas of equity research, mergers & acquisitions, capital raising, and equity trading. Mr. Michaud maintains strong personal relationships with leading industry executives and has been instrumental in executing many of KBW's largest transactions.
In February 2013, Mr. Michaud led the firm's merger into Stifel Financial Corp. KBW is now a wholly owned subsidiary of Stifel Financial and Mr. Michaud serves as Senior Vice President.
Mr. Michaud is a graduate of Middlebury College and earned an M.B.A. from the Stern School of Business at New York University. He currently serves on the Board of the Foreign Policy Association of New York. He is a past board member of the Greenwich Chapter of the American Red Cross, a former Member of the Greenwich Representative Town Meeting, and was a member of the Middlebury College Capital Campaign Committee.
Mr. Cannon joined KBW in 2003. In his dual role as Global Director of Research and Chief Equity Strategist, Mr. Cannon guides the research effort at KBW, which provides industry leading research on the financial sector and research coverage on more than 540 financial services firms. Over his years at KBW, Mr. Cannon's coverage has included a diverse universe of financial institutions, ranging from community and regional banks to mortgage finance companies, and has included some of the largest players in the financial services sector. Mr. Cannon is a graduate of the University of California at Davis and earned his Master's degree from Cornell University. In past years, he served as economist and Director of Investor Relations at Bank of America and Golden State Bank in San Francisco.
Mr. Wirth joined KBW's Investment Banking Department in 1982. He began his career in the New York office before moving to San Francisco in 1987 to initiate the firm's investment banking business in California. In 1991, Mr. Wirth returned to New York while maintaining California and Western U.S. client coverage. Since then, he has held several management positions within the Investment Banking Department; in 2002 he was named Executive Vice President and Associate Director of Investment Banking; and in 2010 was appointed Global Head of Investment Banking.
He received a Bachelor of Arts degree, with honors, from Stanford University and an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School. Mr. Wirth also sits on the Board of Directors for charitable organizations including the African Rainforest Conservancy and Educate!
